Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor isn’t holding out for a new contract like he did last year, but he’s holding out hope it’ll come soon.

The four-time Pro Bowler spoke about his ongoing contract negotiations on Monday, saying he is optimistic a new deal will be his before the season begins.

“I think it’s been positive on both ends,” Chancellor said, per ESPN’s Sheil Kapadia. “Hopefully it’ll get done any time now. Both sides have been very productive working together and just waiting to see what’s happening.”

These comments were echoed by head coach Pete Carroll, who said,  “We have looked long and hard at that,” noting there “is a lot of real positive stuff coming.” Carroll also said he’s hopeful a deal will be struck soon.

Chancellor, entering his eighth year as a pro, is also set to play out the final year of his current deal if he doesn’t get an extension. If that happens, then he’s set to earn $6.8 million in base pay. That’s not exactly chump change, but considering he’s one of the elite safeties in the league, it’s not what he’s worth, either.
