After one of the most successful Detroit Lions seasons in the Super Bowl era, now the franchise has to find a way not only to maintain their momentum, but to gain a bit more steam.

General manager Brad Holmes will be at the forefront of these decisions, trying to upgrade the roster in any way possible. To no surprise, Lions trade rumors have already been circulating, and there have even been suggestions that they’ll pull off a blockbuster deal.

A 15-2 season has the Detroit Lions hungry for more. One suggestion that fans have been calling for is a trade for an impact player who can make an already great team into a top Super Bowl contender. In particular, some want to see the Lions add another star pass-rusher who can play opposite Aidan Hutchinson.

Yet, when GM Brad Holmes was asked about adding another big-named edge rusher at the NFL Combine, the Lions’ roster-builder suggested that type of blockbuster move was not in the cards.

“Those guys are hard to acquire and it’s hard to keep ‘em financially. Again, we have one that’s due for an extension and we’ve already gotten to the plannings stages about him already. So, when you talk about adding another one, it’s like, well, can you financially add another one? Because you want to add the other one on top of everything else that you have, and that makes it tough.”

As much as some fans want to see another star edge rusher, Holmes has a good point. Great pass-rushers are some of the most expensive players in the NFL. The Lions have determined that they can’t allocate that many funds to one position, meaning players like Myles Garrett are likely headed elsewhere this offseason.
