On Sunday, the Denver Broncos couldn’t do a whole lot to limit Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck. Now the job of neutralizing Luck lands on the plate of the New England Patriots. And head coach Bill Belichick had some interesting comments to share with reporters about the upcoming AFC Championship game (via NFL.com).
When asked if stopping Luck, whose bulky but spry body type compares to that of Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Belichick commented with this.
Yeah, they’re both a problem. I mean, he’s a lot faster than Roethlisberger, much more a threat to gain more yardage and gain it quicker. He can run, but if extends the play, then he has the ability to create big plays, and we’ve seen him do that multiple times throughout his career already.
It’s like a sixth receiver you have to cover.
Yes, Luck is going to challenge the Patriots this Sunday not only with his talented arm, but with his agility on the ground. It is worth noting that Luck avoided getting sacked by Denver even though they had their hands on him a few times. He also had an eight-yard touchdown run called back due to a penalty.
So let’s get the order of who’s fastest straight. Luck is faster than Roethlisberger, and everyone is faster than Tom Brady. Fortunately for Brady, Belichick didn’t comment on his quarterback’s speed.
