Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday evening.
This is a tremendous blow to a Washington squad that is reeling after a bad loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and a tie against the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend in London.
Now at 4-3-1, two games behind the Dallas Cowboys in the loss column and last place in the NFC East, Washington has lost its best offensive lineman.
Williams is not only the best offensive lineman for Washington, but he’s also one of the best left tackles in the NFL. Adept at protecting Kirk Cousins’ blind side, he is also a solid run blocker.
A team that struggles to run the ball consistently and features a streaky passer who tends towards mistakes under pressure, this could significantly affect Washington going foward.
