NFL community reacts to Trevor Lawrence throwing four first-half interceptions

Trevor Lawrence

When Trevor Lawrence began Saturday’s game, it was the first playoff start of his young NFL career. But it was the same story for Justin Herbert for the Los Angeles Chargers. Both hyped-up players who are looking to establish themselves as elite quarterbacks in the league, but their performances early on couldn’t have been more different.

Prior to the start of the game, if you heard one QB struggled to make adjustments, we might believe it would be Herbert, who’s playing without Mike Williams, his top target. Instead, it was Lawrence who looked like he didn’t belong in the postseason, throwing four first-half interceptions. Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. recorded three of them, adding to the two passes he picked off during the regular season.

In what has to be one of the worst first-half performances in recent NFL history, if Lawrence’s status as the Jaguars’ starting QB wasn’t so strong, it’s possible we’d see another signal-caller benched to start the second half, but that won’t be happening in Jacksonville.

He’s the first player to throw four interceptions in the first half since Gary Danielson pulled it off with the Lions in 1983.

While Lawrence will get the chance to dig out of an early hole, social media never forgives or forgets, and they had a field day in response to seeing the former No. 1 overall pick throw the game away in primetime.
