NFL Fines Four Players for Roles in Super Bowl Brawl

A fight that marred an otherwise outstanding Super Bowl between the now champion New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks didn’t come without any repercussions from the league office in New York City.

The league fined four players—Bruce Irvin ($10,000), Michael Bennett ($8,268), Rob Gronkowski ($8,268) and Michael Hoomanawanui ($8,268) for their roles in the fight.

The fight occurred with New England kneeling down in victory formation following Russell Wilson’s last-second goal line interception to give the Patriots the Lombardi.

In addition to this, Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin was fined $11,025 for his celebration following a third quarter touchdown.

Interestingly enough, Baldwin was fined more for a gesture than any of the players involved in the fight. That’s the NFL’s double standard for you.
