NFL employs Tom Brady to help with anti-gambling message amid growing scandal

Tom Brady has been the face of the NFL for 22 years. While the seven-time Super Bowl champion has since retired from the game, many current NFL players grew up idolizing him.

That’s why it was pretty smart for the NFL to employ Brady in a new video message that will be distributed to all 32 teams about the dangers of gambling.

Per Mike Klis of 9News in Denver, Brady is seen in a new video in which he addresses his love of the game and explains that “playing in the NFL was a privilege of a lifetime.” Brady concluded his message by telling players to “do the right thing” and follow the league rules on gambling.

This message comes amid a new scandal unfolding around the NFL in which several players have been suspended for violating the league’s anti-gambling policy. Most recently, Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers has found himself under investigation for gambling on NFL games. It seems as if he’s facing a permanent ban from the league.

NFL gambling scandal could be expanded

As the league enlists Tom Brady to help educate players on the repercussions that would come with gambling on games, a recent report from Albert Breer indicates that Rodgers is not the only NFL player currently being investigated for violating the league’s gambling policy. As Breer notes, “a number” of players could be implicated across the league.

It was earlier in the offseason that young Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was among five players suspended for violating the policy.

A first-round pick of the Lions back in 2022, Williams was suspended six games. His ban came from betting on sports within the team facility. He did not bet on NFL games. Now-former Lions wide receiver Stanley Berryhill was also suspended six games for a similar infraction.

Then-Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore joined Washington Commanders pass rusher Shaka Toney in being suspended for an entire year after an investigation found that they placed bets on actual NFL games.

There’s certainly some ambiguity as it relates to the league’s anti-gambling policy, as Williams pointed out following his suspension.

“Oh, yeah, for sure, because like I said, it hit me out the blue and it hit a couple other players around the league and on my team out the blue,” Williams said back in May. “I wasn’t aware of this situation, but as it happened, I took it on the chin.”

If there is anyone these players are going to listen to, it’s Tom Brady. Whether this nips this situation in the bud before a full-blown scandal occurs remains to be seen.
