New York Yankees game against Chicago White Sox postponed due to air quality issues

The wildfires blazing in Canada right now are having a major impact on the American east coast. While minor in the grand scheme of things, they are also having a major impact on the Major League Baseball schedule.

That includes the New York Yankees’ home date against the Chicago White Sox scheduled for Wednesday evening being postponed.

“Tonight’s Yankees-White Sox Game rescheduled because of poor air quality due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires; will be made up tomorrow, Thursday, June 8, as the first game of a single-admission doubleheader, which will begin at 4:05 PM,” New York Yankees statement.

This makes perfect sense since the air quality issues in New York City has led to a warning about individuals actually going outside. The scenes we’ve witnessed from the east coast have been eye opening. That includes photos taken from Yankee Stadium ahead of Wednesday’s scheduled game.

Other views from the New York-New Jerey area have been equally as astonishing.

There are currently more than 100 wildfires burning out of control across the Canadian border in Quebec and Ottawa, with more than 9.3 million acres being charred at this point.

In addition to the New York Yankees’ home game against Chicago being postponed, the Philadelphia Phillies home date against the Detroit Tigers has also been postponed.

It remains to be seen whether these games can be played as scheduled moving forward this week.

Welcome to the new normal.
