The New York Yankees activated veteran left-hander reliever Zack Britton from the 60-day injured list on Saturday.
Britton, 33, underwent surgery in March to remove a bone chip from his left elbow.
After beginning his career with the Baltimore Orioles in 2011, Britton was traded to the Yankees in July 2018. In 111 games with the Yankees, he is 5-3 with a 2.14 ERA with 14 saves.
In the abbreviated 2020 season, Britton posted a 1-2 record and 1.89 ERA with eight saves in 20 games.
To make room for Britton on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated first baseman Mike Ford for assignment. In 22 games on the season, Ford hit three homers and had five RBIs, batting .133 with 23 strikeouts in 60 at-bats.
In other moves, New York optioned right-hander Brooks Kriske (0-0, 11.25 ERA) to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and transferred the rehab assignment for right-hander Luis Severino from Low-A Tampa to High-A Hudson Valley.
Severino, 27, missed much of the 2019 regular season because of right shoulder rotator cuff inflammation and a Grade 2 lat strain. After back-to-back seasons with 30-plus starts in 2017 and ’18, Severino made five total starts in 2019 and threw just 12 innings in the regular season, plus 8 1/3 more in the playoffs.
He underwent Tommy John surgery in February 2020.
