At 37-48 and tied for last place in the NL East, the New York Mets might be sellers leading up to the trade deadline later this month. While there are some players who are off limits, it appears that Bartolo Colon isn’t one of them.
According to the New York Post, the Mets “will listen” to offer for the 41-year-old starter.
According to club sources, the team will listen to offers for Bartolo Colon and may actively shop the veteran right-hander.
Colon is 8-6 with a 3.88 ERA this season. He signed a two-year, $20 million deal with New York in the offseason after putting up 18 wins for the Oakland Athletics in 2013. While there might be some concern about Colon’s age and home-away splits, he would be a tremendous asset for a contending team.
Colon has gone at least six innings in 12 of his 18 starts this year, but he has also put up a lackluster 5.06 ERA on the road in 2014. This means that you can expect potential suitors to take into account their own stadiums and how pitchers fair when coming to town. Teams like the Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants could very well show interest.
