The game between the New York Mets and Miami Marlins was suspended on Sunday at Citi Field because of inclement weather in New York.

The game started in a steady rain, and plate umpire D.J. Reyburn halted play after just seven minutes. Mets starting pitcher Marcus Stroman got one out and threw nine pitches before the game was suspended with the Marlins still batting in the top half of the first.

“This game should have never been started. Not smart at all,” Stroman tweeted. “Those conditions put everyone at risk. Beyond happy no players on either side were injured. Hate that I have to wait another 5 days to pitch again. That’s a miserable feeling.”

The game will resume as the first game in a split doubleheader on Aug. 31. The first game, to start at 1:10 p.m. ET, will be a nine-inning game. The second game, set to begin at 7:10 p.m., will be a seven-inning contest.

The Marlins were scheduled to start right-handed reliever John Curtiss. Manager Don Mattingly said he decided to use an opener because of the weather forecast, in part.
