New York Jets QB Zach Wilson draws start in Week 12

The New York Jets have tabbed rookie Zach Wilson the starting quarterback this Sunday amid COVID-19 upending the quarterback room, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

Wilson has missed the past four games with a knee sprain but will be back under center against the Houston Texans.

Backup quarterback Mike White tested positive for COVID-19 and No. 3 signal caller Joe Flacco was deemed a close contact, resulting in both being place on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, per the reports.

Josh Johnson is being promoted from the practice squad to back up Wilson this Sunday.

Wilson cleared medical protocols on his knee on Monday, per the reports.

White played three games in place of Wilson while Flacco started last Sunday against Miami. Johnson came on for White in Week 9 against Indianapolis when White suffered an arm injury in the first quarter. Johnson threw for 317 yards and three TDs in the losing effort.

The Jets went 1-3 in Wilson’s absence. The Jets were 1-5 under Wilson before he was injured.

Wilson sprained his PCL in the Jets’ Week 7 loss against New England. Wilson is completing just 57.5 percent of his passes for 1,168 yards and four touchdowns against nine interceptions.

White led the Jets to just their second victory of the season, 34-31 over Cincinnati in Week 8. White threw for 405 yards, three touchdowns and two INTs.

The Jets and Texans are both 2-8.
