Longtime NFL assistant coach Greg Knapp has been hospitalized for the past few days after suffering serious injuries in a bicycle accident in California.

Unfortunately, we’re starting to hear some tragic news as it relates to Knapp from those closest to him.

Current Chicago Bears tight ends coach Clancy Barone shared a post on social media indicating that Knapp has passed away from the injuries occurred in said accident.

Greg Knapp was just recently hired by the New York Jets to be their pass-game specialist under new head coach Robert Saleh.

A veteran NFL coach for the past quarter-century, Knapp is widely respected around the league. His experience includes stints as an offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, then-Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

For their part, the Jets had released a statement following reports of Knapp’s serious bicycle accident. They have yet to confirm the news first reported by one of the assistant coach’s best friends.

Knapp is survived by his wife Charlotte and their three daughters.

Our thoughts obviously go out to his family, friends and the entire New York Jets’ organization during these most difficult of times.
