New Orleans Saints announce Trevor Siemian as starter for Sunday vs Falcons

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints lost quarterback Jameis Winston for the season to an ACL injury during last week’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were projected to get Taysom Hill back from his concussion this week, but he may not be back to 100% yet. However, the Saints announced Trevor Siemian will be under center, starting against the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.

After leading the Saints to a 36-27 win last week, throwing for 159 yards and a touchdown, it makes sense for coach Sean Payton to stick with their success. It’s possible that if Siemian has another strong performance, he could become the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

Behind Siemian, they also have Taysom Hill and Ian Book on the roster, but it appears Siemian will get the first crack at the job after Winston’s injury.

At 5-2, the Saints have 10 games left to play and they will have to do so without a snap from star receiver Michael Thomas. Maybe there’s another receiver who would interest them?
