New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier is expected to be sidelined three weeks after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a frontal sinus fracture.

The Devils announced the update Tuesday prior to their home game against the Buffalo Sabres. Hischier has been out since Feb. 27 after getting hit in the visor with a puck against the Washington Capitals.

The Devils then described Hischier’s status to return as week-to-week.

Hischier was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He has two goals and an assist in five games this season, having also missed time with a foot injury. The 22-year-old has 53 goals and 85 assists across 214 career games with New Jersey.

The Devils made Hischier the youngest captain in the NHL last month.
