The struggling Brooklyn Nets were handed a severe blow on Wednesday with news that star guard Caris LeVert potentially suffered ligament damage in his left thumb.
That’s now been confirmed by Shams Charania of The Athletic, who indicates LeVert underwent surgery and is expected to miss several weeks of action.
The writing seemed to be on the wall earlier in the week when Brooklyn signed veteran guard Iman Shumpert.
This is no small thing. A first-round pick from Michigan back in 2016, LeVert has morphed into a big-time player. Prior to suffering the injury, he was averaging career bests in points (16.8) rebounds (5.0) and assists (4.0) while shooting 36% from distance.
Brooklyn currently sits at a disappointing 4-6 on the season heading into Thursday’s game against the Denver Nuggets.
