Even though he’s the NBA’s oldest player, LeBron James continues to age gracefully. Next season, he’ll turn 41 years old. Yet, considering LeBron still averaged 24.4 points per game as a 40-year-old, we’re guessing he’ll still be able to get buckets next season too.

However, before we can think about LeBron adding to his historic scoring totals, there has been some discussion about where he’ll be playing next season. He’s spent the past seven seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, but some believe James could be on the move since there’s just one year left on his contract.

Recently as the LeBron trade rumors have emerged, one of the teams that’s been most frequently linked to him is the Dallas Mavericks, thanks to his connection with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. Adding Cooper Flagg in the 2025 NBA Draft surely doesn’t hurt either.

However, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the only scenario where the Mavericks would actually pursue a partnership with LeBron is if he was bought out of his remaining contract with the Lakers.

Considering LeBron has a $52.6 million salary this season, odds are the Lakers won’t set him free because it’s just too expensive. Plus, they’re also trying to maximize this roster’s potential as JJ Redick heads into his second season as head coach, and his first full one with Luka Doncic leading the way.

In other words, don’t hold your breath on LeBron landing with the Mavericks this offseason.
