According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the deal is said to be worth $25 million over three years.
This is no small thing. The NBA had in the past embraced the idea of legalized sports gambling throughout the United States, taking a completely different stance than the likes of MLB and the NFL.
Once the United States Supreme Court overturned a ban on gambling throughout the nation earlier this year, it became apparent that sports leagues would have to change their philosophies to take into account the modern times. The NBA is the first league to do just that.
Earlier in the day, MGM announced a partnership with Boyd Gaming Corporation to bring gambling to online and mobile platforms. That includes the sports world.
“We are excited to team yet again with Boyd Gaming on this unprecedented partnership, which allows us to fully engage with the almost 30 million M life Rewards members throughout the country,” MGM Resorts Chairman and CEO Jim Murren said. “We look forward to expanding our entertainment options for guests beyond their visits to our land-based resorts.”
This could very well end up being a boon for both MGM and the NBA. It’s also big news for you gaming aficionados out there.
