NBA rookie donates $30,000 worth of shoes to hometown league

Lonnie Walker IV is the favorite son of Reading, Pennsylvania, and the San Antonio Spurs rookie is giving back to his community.

According to Mike Drago of the¬†Reading Eagle, Walker and Adidas executive Eric Wise will help distribute $30,000 worth of shoes to the town’s Blacktop Basketball League.

Drago shared the reaction from Veronica Brown, the league’s executive director.

“What Adidas and Lonnie are doing, it’s amazing. It’s awesome.”

Walker, the 18th pick of the 2018 NBA draft, recently¬†signed an endorsement deal with Adidas. It truly is awesome he’s already putting that connection to good use.

During his lone season at Miami, the shooting guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists. With the Spurs, he’ll be expected to hold a regular role immediately, especially if they trade disgruntled forward Kawhi Leonard.

And Walker probably will become a fan favorite in San Antonio, too.
