Nashville SC signed midfielder Irakoze Donasiyano, the 20th overall selection in the 2021 MLS Super Draft, to a one-year contract Wednesday with club options through the 2024 season.

The University of Virginia product has been working out with the team since earlier this month. He played in 65 games at Virginia over four seasons with 56 starts and played every Cavaliers game in each of the past two seasons.

“Koze has a lot of positive attributes that really mesh well with our team,” Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a statement. “His athleticism and work-rate help him cover a lot of ground on both sides of the ball, and he has a tremendous attitude and energy that make him a real competitor. His versatility enables him to play multiple roles in the group as well.”

Donasiyano becomes the first player from Nashville’s 2021 draft class to sign a contract.

Nashville opened the season with a pair or 2-2 draws against FC Cincinnati and CF Montreal. The team will play host to Inter Miami CF on Sunday.
