Nashville Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm is considered week-to-week with an undisclosed injury, coach John Hynes announced Thursday.
Ekholm sat out the third period of Nashville’s 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. He absorbed a collision into the boards during the first period and returned for the second, only to retreat to the locker room midway into the session.
The 30-year-old Swede has recorded three points — all assists — in 12 games this season. He averages a robust 20:54 of ice time for the Predators, who have lost five of their past six games heading into Thursday’s tilt against the visiting Detroit Red Wings.
Ekholm has 199 points (45 goals, 154 assists) in 550 career games since being selected by Nashville in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft.
