The Texas Rangers came into the 2025 MLB season hoping they could be one of the best teams in the American League. With July seeing the club sitting below the .500 mark, the possibility of being a seller at the trade deadline seems to be on the table.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic wrote that with the Rangers potentially being a seller at the MLB trade deadline, the club could consider trading All-Star outfielder Adolis Garcia.

  • Adolis Garcia stats (ESPN): .228/.272/.386, .658 OPS, 10 home runs, 49 RBI, 8 steals in 303 at-bats

Garcia, a two-time All-Star selection, seemed to be an emerging star in 2023. In that year, he earned All-MLB Second Team honors and won ALCS MVP on his way to winning a World Series with Texas.

Since then, the right-handed hitter’s production has dropped. He’s on pace this season to finish with fewer than 20 home runs for the first time as an everyday player. He has also posted a sub-.300 OBP for the second consecutive year, and his OPS has declined after a career-worst mark (.684) in 2024.

Heading into MLB games today,  Garcia owns a .227/.272/.386 triple-slash line with a .658 OPS and a 93 OPS+ (below average) in his last 968 plate appearances. Over that two-year span, he’s struck out in 27 percent of his plate appearances, with just a 6.5 percent walk rate.

A Gold Glove Award winner in 2023, Garcia still adds plenty of value defensively. Through 81 games played this season, he has the second-most Defensive Runs Saved (10) among right fielders and he ranks in the 94th percentile of Baseball Savant‘s Arm Strength (92.1).

Given the thin market for power-hitting outfielders at the MLB trade deadline, there would be a strong market for Garcia if he becomes available. Clubs would likely be even more interested based on his recent play—he has a .717 OPS in his last 106 at-bats—production that could make him a very good everyday starter in right field for a contender.
