The Chicago White Sox have put their top trade target on the 10-day injured list a month out from the July 31 deadline.

Former All-Star center fielder Luis Robert Jr. is on the shelf with a left hamstring strain. The move is retroactive to June 26.

The injury puts another dent in the White Sox’s efforts to deal Robert, who they held onto too long and missed their chance at getting a sizable package for him.

Robert is having his second consecutive disappointing season. A right hip flexor strain limited him to just 100 games in 2024, where he hit .224 with 14 home runs, a .657 OPS and 85 OPS+. This season has been worse, with a .185 batting average, .584 OPS and 65 OPS+.

It’s a far cry from his 2023 All-Star campaign when he slashed .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs and a 130 OPS+.

Despite the poor offensive numbers, Robert still plays solid defense and has stolen 22 bases this season.

Robert is owed roughly $7.5 million of his $15 million salary this season. He also has $20 million club options for both 2026 and 2027. Two years ago, that contract looked like a bargain, but his recent struggles have made it an overpay.
