It’s a big week for pitching matchups in Major League Baseball. Aces going head-to-head or young arms making noise, there’s plenty to watch. Here are five to keep an eye on:
5. Luis Castillo (Mariners) vs. Chris Paddack (Twins)

This game features a fun pitching battle between two very different styles. Castillo throws hard with a nasty changeup and is tough to hit when he’s on. Paddack has good control and is starting to look like the pitcher he was early in his career. It’s a great matchup for fans who enjoy seeing power pitching go up against smart, well-placed pitches.
4. Garrett Crochet (Red Sox) vs. Tyler Anderson (Angels) — Wednesday, June 25

This will be a fun matchup on the mound between two different styles. Castillo throws hard with a nasty changeup and is tough to hit when he’s on. Paddack is in control and is starting to look like the pitcher he used to be early in his career. Fans will love it as power pitching takes on smart pitching.
3. MacKenzie Gore (Nationals) vs. TBD (Angels) — Sunday, June 29

This season, MacKenzie Gore has been pitching great with an ERA of 3.19 and more than 120 K’s. He’ll face a yet to be determined Angels’ starter who will try to slow him down. It’s worth watching to see whether Gore can keep dominating.
4. Lance McCullers Jr. (Astros) vs. Paul Skenes (Pirates)

Lance McCullers Jr. has finally returned from an injury and has been pitching solidly. Paul Skenes, the Pirates’ rookie has been impressive in his debut season with a 1.85 ERA and 106 K’s in 102 IP. This matchup will be experience vs youth.
1. Max Scherzer (Blue Jays) vs. Alex Cobb (Giants)

Returning to the Blue Jays’ active roster after an injury, Max Scherzer is bringing his veteran experience. Alex Cobb with his tricky splitter and groundball pitching will start for the Giants. A great low-scoring duel on the mound for fans who love pitching battles.
