The Minnesota Twins placed veteran right-hander Michael Pineda on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained left oblique.
Pineda, 32, has made 17 starts this season, posting a 4-8 record with a 4.13 ERA. He has 73 strikeouts and 17 walks in 85 innings.
In Friday’s 10-4 loss to Tampa Bay, Pineda allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits before leaving the game in the third inning with what was described as tightness in his side.
Pineda owns a 57-54 record with a 4.03 ERA in his eight-year career with the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Twins.
The Twins recalled right-hander Ralph Garza Jr. from Triple-A St. Paul to replace Pineda on the roster.
Garza, 27, was claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros on Aug. 4. He appeared in nine games for the Astros, with a 1-2 record and a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings.
