The Milwaukee Brewers placed second baseman Kolten Wong on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain, the team announced Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Brewers selected infielder/outfielder Jace Peterson from its alternate training site.

Wong said he aggravated the injury in his third at-bat on Thursday in Milwaukee’s 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 30-year-old Wong is batting .105 in 19 at-bats this season, his first with the Brewers since signing a two-year, $18 million contract. He has a .260 average with 53 homers and 281 RBIs in 859 career games with the Cardinals and Brewers.

Peterson, also 30, was listed in the starting lineup for Saturday afternoon’s game against St. Louis. He was batting seventh and playing second base.

Peterson has hit .227 with 22 homers and 142 RBIs in 534 career games with the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Brewers.
