Miguel Andujar could miss rest of season with labrum tear in right shoulder

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

New York Yankees infielder Miguel Andujar was placed on the injured list on Monday with a shoulder injury. It might be a season-ending injury.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that Andujar has a small labrum tear. While no decisions have been made, he added that season-ending surgery is a possibility.

Andujar was one of baseball’s best rookies in 2018. He hit .297/.328/.527 with 27 home runs.

This is obviously horrible news for the Yankees. That said, they are relatively prepared for this.

DJ LeMahieu was signed in the offseason as a super utility man. He will now likely move into an everyday role. He could play third or move to his natural position of second, which would move Gleyber Torres to third. Didi Gregorius will also likely be back some time in June.

Even if season-ending surgery isn’t the option, New York will obviously be very cautious, especially with that many options on the table.
