Michigan point guard DeVante’ Jones said Saturday that he is departing the school and declaring for the NBA draft.

Jones played just one season with the Wolverines after transferring from Coastal Carolina. He averaged 10.3 points, 4.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 33 games, all starts, for Michigan.

“Michigan … Thank you, this wasn’t the easiest year for me but with the support of the fans, my teammates, the coaching staff, and the hardworking managers, it made my experience here worthwhile,” Jones said in his announcement on Twitter. “This is a year I will never forget because it taught me that when you get hit you can’t just sit there and complain because nobody will feel sorry for you.”

Jones’ play at the Big Ten school didn’t match his performance at Coastal Carolina, where he averaged 17 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 81 games (77 starts) over three seasons. He was the Sun Belt Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season.

The NBA draft is June 23. The deadline for players to withdraw their name and retain their college eligibility is June 1.
