Mets have not ruled out Craig Kimbrel, per report

As the New York Mets wait for ace Jacob deGrom to undergo an MRI on his pitching elbow, New York’s front office appears to be considering bringing in one of the top pitchers on the market.

According to SportsNet New York’s Andy Martino, the Mets have not ruled out a pursuit of star closer Craig Kimbrel.

Even with All-Star closer Edwin Diaz closing things down in the ninth currently, New York at least is showing some interest in adding another dominant arm to its bullpen.

A potential three-headed monster of Kimbrel, Diaz and Jeurys Familia could give the Mets a massive advantage in the late innings and make them nearly unstoppable with a late lead.

Of course, this could all change if deGrom’s MRI results don’t come back in New York’s favor. The Mets will also likely face competition to sign Kimbrel, including from the divisional foes in Atlanta.
