Matt Harvey’s once promising career with the New York Mets has come to a conclusion. After struggling yet again in his most-recent appearance, the Mets have designated the former All-Star for assignment. It comes after he refused a demotion to the minors.
Mets DFA Matt Harvey. Asked him to go to minors and he refused. Wow.

Harvey’s final appearance with the Mets came Thursday evening at home against the Atlanta Braves. The 29-year-old pitcher yielded five earned runs in just two innings en route to hearing a plethora of boos from Mets fans. Overall this season, the former franchise cornerstone has pitched to a 7.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.
The Mets will have 10 days to trade Harvey. Should that not come to fruition, he’ll hit the waiver wire.
