Mavericks reportedly expected to target All-Star Kemba Walker

Will the Hornets trade Kemba Walker?

The Dallas Mavericks might have a tremendous one-two punch of the future in that of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. But that’s not going to stop the Mark Cuban-led team from attempting to make a splash in free agency.

According to Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer, the expectation is that Dallas will make signing Hornets All-Star guard Kemba Walker a priority when the summer comes calling.

“Two sources with knowledge of the Mavericks’ thinking expect Walker, the Hornets’ three-time All-Star point guard, to be that team’s top target when NBA free-agency begins July 1,” Bonnell reported.

Walker, 28, would make for an excellent back-court option with Doncic. He’s in the midst of a career season that has seen the former lottery pick average 24.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists en route to earning a start in the All-Star Game.

Charlotte had in the past put Walker on the trade block. But the team has kept him up until his contract year.

The hope here is that the Hornets can find a way to entice a return to Charlotte. Given they can offer up more to Walker in free agency, that remains a strong possibility. If not, Cuban and Co. will certainly come calling.
