Matt Schaub Feeling “No Pressure” With the Oakland Raiders

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen hasn’t named Matt Schaub the official starting quarterback according to Omar Ruiz of Yahoo Sports, but all signs are pointing to him making his debut in Oakland as the number one guy.

Schaub maintains a well-rounded confidence going into the 2014 season, even though former Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr was drafted as the future leader in Oakland.

No matter how many years you put in it and how many games you’ve won, games you’ve been in, you have to go out and prove yourself that you’re worthy of the spot that they’re putting you in,” says Schaub.

The former Houston Texans quarterback was traded to the Raiders for a late-round pick in this year’s draft back in March, which saved nearly $4 million in cap space for the Texans.

Derek Carr was signed to a $5.37 million deal with Oakland over four years, and according to ESPN.com, he will only start this season if something goes wrong. More specifically, if “something catastrophic” happens.

Carr was the fourth quarterback taken in the 2014 draft.

With a veteran and a rookie quarterback on the sidelines, the duo whips up a strong concoction of teacher and student. Schaub has reached out to the rookie and has promised to help in anyway he can.

I’m no different coming in as the new guy. I’m just looking to get better every day and make this team better and win some football games,” adds Schaub.

Expect the 32 year old to get the starting position even though Dennis Allen has not made official announcement to ensure “there is competition at every spot.” Still, the Raiders coach also adds he brought “Matt Schaub in to be the starter and he is excited to have a Top-10 quarterback on the team.”
