Marshall DT Larry Aaron, paralyzed during New Year’s Eve shooting, passed away

Marshall Larry Aaron

Marshall defensive tackle Larry Aaron was struck by a stray bullet during a New Year’s Eve party while shielding his girlfriend. He was paralyzed from the waist down due to the shooting.

Tragically, that incident ultimately proved to be the death of the young man. The school announced he had passed away at a Maryland hospital earlier in the day.

Head football coach Doc Holliday issued the following statement, via the school’s website.

“Marshall University lost a very special young man today and it has shocked and saddened us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Larry Aaron’s family and friends, many of whom were his fellow Thundering Herd teammates. His loss will be felt in every corner of our program and his spirit will never be forgotten.”

As a way to honor Aaron, the school will hold a fundraiser in his name. It will take place on Saturday during the school’s men’s basketball game, where “93Strong” T-shirts will be sold for $20.

Others who might be interested in purchasing a T-shirt online for $25 to help raise funds can do so by clicking here.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends as they grieve this terrible loss.
