Mark McGwire Wants Nothing to do with Jose Canseco

Former Oakland Athletics slugger Jose Canseco attempted to make good with his old team this past weekend. Canseco was on hand for the 25th anniversary of the A’s 1989 World Series team at O.co in Oakland on Saturday.

Mark McGwire, who couldn’t make it to the event because he is currently a coach with the Los Angeles Dodgers, isn’t having any of it. The one-time single-season home run leader had this to say about Canseco to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

It’s too late. I don’t care to ever speak to him again,” McGwire told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Wednesday. “What he did was wrong.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Canseco and McGwire, even as former Bash Brothers in Oakland, have not been on speaking terms since Canseco released the book Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big back in 2005.

The book claimed that McGwire, among other former MLB players, used PED’s during their careers.

Canseco offered a public apology to McGwire during the reunion ceremony in Oakland this past weekend. But it’s readily apparent that McGwire wants nothing to do with his former teammate.

For what it’s worth, Dennis Eckersley, who played with both McGwire and Canseco in Oakland, seemed to take sides in what has now become a very public spat.

I mean, come on, man. It’s been a long time. Time heals everything.

Despite his often drama-filled tenure with the A’s, fans in Oakland were welcoming of Canseco this past weekend. It now remains to be seen if McGwire will ever forgive his old partner in crime (no pun intended).
