Mariners make unfortunate history over four-game stretch

The Seattle Mariners did something this week that no team has done in 129 years. And in this case, that’s not a good thing.

The Mariners have dropped four straight games. All but one of those losses was a double-digit defeat. As Stats By STATS noted, that hasn’t happened since 1890 and was done by a team that no longer exists.

Yikes. That’s a solid 11 years before a different Philadelphia Athletics (now the Oakland Athletics) became a founding member of the American League.

It all started with a 15-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. That was followed by a 14-1 loss to Texas. On Wednesday, Seattle lost 11-0 to the Cubs. The only outlier was a 6-5 defeat on Tuesday. Making matters worse is that all of these losses came at home.

The good news here is that the blowout losses don’t count in the standings any more than the close ones do.

Still, the Mariners might want to look into turning this thing around ASAP.
