Mariners acquire pitcher Justin Topa from Brewers

The Seattle Mariners acquired right-hander Justin Topa from Milwaukee on Saturday in exchange for minor league pitcher Joseph Hernandez.

Topa, 31, went 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA in seven relief appearances for the Brewers this past season.

Topa was on the injured list with a right forearm flexor strain from the start of the season through Aug. 12, making his season debut with the Brewers on Sept. 9.

Hernandez, 22, went 9-5 with a 3.39 ERA for Class-A Modesto in 2022, striking out 143 batters in 116 2/3 innings.
