Lucky Whitehead not traveling with Cowboys after violating team rules

The Dallas Cowboys will be without receiver/return man Lucky Whitehead when they battle the New York Giants Sunday, team writer Nick Eatman reported Saturday.

Though not necessarily a prodigious performer for Dallas, Whitehead has flashed in some critical situations for the Cowboys, both this year and in 2015. Used primarily as a return man, he’s broken off some sizable gains running the ball on sweeps this year, averaging 10.75 yards per attempt.

While his impact on Dallas’ success this year has been minimal, it’s worth pointing out that Whitehead has been active for every single game thus far, indicating his value to the team as one of its top 46 players.

This means that if the Cowboys suffer some injuries at the receiver position, it’ll be up to others to pick up the slack while Whitehead watches from, presumably, his couch.
