LSU quarterback Myles Brennan is sidelined indefinitely after sustaining a significant injury to his left (non-throwing) arm that will require surgery.
It is the second major injury in as many seasons for the senior signal-caller, who threw for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first three games of the 2020 campaign before tearing an abdominal muscle. That ailment ultimately cost Brennan the remainder of his season, and while Tigers coach Ed Orgeron did not put a timeline on Brennan’s return, he described the injury as “severe.”
Orgeron added in a school press release, “Myles has done everything we have asked of him this summer and was in the fight to be the starting quarterback at LSU.”
Brennan has appeared in 20 career games for LSU, throwing for 1,712 yards and 13 touchdown passes with six interceptions.
The Tigers open their season Sept. 4 at UCLA. If Brennan is unable to play, LSU likely will turn to sophomore Max Johnson. The two were expected to compete for the starting job for the Tigers, who are coming off a disappointing 5-5 season.
LSU has freshman Garrett Nussmeier as the No. 3 quarterback on its depth chart.
