Louis Nix, a former star defensive lineman for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, was found dead at the age of 29 just days after his family reported him missing.

Word spread early Saturday that Nix went missing days earlier, leading to family and law enforcement searching for him. Unfortunately, Jacksonville’s Action News reported Saturday night that the former college football star and NFL Draft pick has passed away.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Nix was last seen at 10 a.m. EST on Wednesday when he left his father’s residence. He was supposed to meet his brother at the residence, but the 29-year-old left before he arrived and didn’t indicate where he was headed.

Nix grew up in Jacksonville, dominating as a multi-sport athlete at William M. Raines High School. He played football, basketball and was a member of the track & field team.

A four-star recruit, Nix joined the Fighting Irish and became an impact player. He won the program’s Moose Krause Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2012, was named a 2012 Third-Team All-American tackle by CBS Sports and finished on the watch list for the 2013 Bednarik Award.

After racking up 14 tackles for loss in three seasons, the 6-foot-3 defensive tackle declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected by the Houston Texans with the No. 83 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, multiple knee surgeries prevented him from ever taking a snap with the team.

Nix joined the New York Giants in 2015 and played in four games that season. He later signed with the Washington Football Team and Jacksonville Jaguars, but never played a regular-season snap for either team.

Just a few months ago, Nix was shot while at a gas station in Jacksonville. He was robbed at gunpoint while putting air in his tires, but was released a short time after his stay in the hospital.

Further details on Nix’s death haven’t been disclosed.
