The Los Angeles Rams put starting cornerback Darious Williams on injured reserve Tuesday with a sprained ankle.

Williams will have to miss at least three games. He sustained the injury in the Rams’ win over the Seattle Seahawks last Thursday.

“You’re losing an outstanding corner who has position-flex to play outside, to play inside,” Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday. “He’s got great ball skills. He’s got great concept trigger recognition, all the things that he did a great job of.”

In a corresponding move, the Rams activated offensive tackle Tremayne Anchrum off injured reserve. He sustained a knee injury in the preseason finale and was designated to return in late September.

Williams, 28, had 29 tackles and two passes defensed in five starts this season. He had four interceptions and 14 passes defensed in 16 games (10 starts) last season for the Rams. He has 88 tackles in 37 games (18 starts) in three-plus seasons with the Rams and Baltimore Ravens (2018).

He had played in nearly 100 percent of the Rams’ defensive snaps until getting hurt.
