It’s almost time. In about three weeks, the 2020 MLB season will finally kick off after being suspended back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the shortened 60-game season does indeed start, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees will be favored to meet in the World Series. Though, it’s one of these teams that is the favorite to come away with the best record in baseball. Barely.

Even with a shortened 60-game slate, it’s clear that odds makers can’t differentiate the Dodgers from the Yankees too much. In reality, a World Series between these two legendary organizations would be the tonic needed to save what could be a disastrous season on the diamond.

The rest of the odds are rather interesting in that the Minnesota Twins are seen as the biggest threat to the Yankees in the American League. They are joined by the Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics as the top dogs in the league. Specifically, it’s going to be interesting to see how Oakland’s combination of proven stars and young pitching coexist during a shortened season.

Over in the National League, it’s rather clear that the Dodgers are overwhelming favorites after landing Mookie Betts and Davis Price in a trade with the Boston Red Sox over the winter. Though, don’t discount the Atlanta Braves.

2020 MLB schedule to kick off July 23

The above-mentioned Yankees will head to D.C. to take on the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals on July 23.

It will be part of a nationally televised doubleheader to get the season going. Even without fans in attendance, this promises to be a blast.
