Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout will visit the team doctor on Monday for an assessment about his recovery from a right calf strain.

Manager Joe Maddon said the visit was a “routine follow-up,” even though he added Trout has experienced some twinges during rehabilitation drills.

Trout, a three-time American League MVP, has missed 58 games with the injury.

“It’s something that he feels, but it’s not awful,” Maddon said. “We’re just waiting to hear from the doc.”

Trout, who turns 30 on Aug. 7, accompanied the Angels on their road trip to Oakland and Minneapolis this week to get some work in but has had the abnormal feeling when he makes quick moves, Maddon said.

“It’s not like he’s going there [to see the doctor] because there’s anything wrong,” Maddon said. “We just got to find out everything that Mike’s feeling, where the doctor believes that puts him. I don’t even know if there’s going to be a test on that, like a scan of some sort that indicates the amount of healing that’s transpired. All those things will happen tomorrow, and I want to believe we’ll have a better feel at that point.”

Trout sustained the injury on May 17 while running the bases in a game against the Cleveland Indians. He was batting .333 with eight homers and 18 RBIs in 36 games at the time.
