The Boston Red Sox are slated to open their 2020 regular season against the Baltimore Orioles Friday evening. The truncated 60-game regular season obviously takes on new meaning for a Boston team coming off a drama-filled offseason.

Though, there’s an even bigger backdrop to all of this. The Black Lives Matter movement and protests against police brutality in the United States.

Having already made a major statement earlier this week, Boston’s MLB team has now decided to add Black Lives Matter signage to the bleachers at Fenway Park.

This comes one day after pretty much every player and coach on the four teams that opened the season on Thursday took a knee prior to the anthem to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Unlike previous seasons, Major League Baseball and its teams have not been quiet on this front. Located in a Boston metro area that has largely been divided a long racial lines, the Red Sox outspoken ways take on even more importance.
