It seems we can never escape from our past. Even after moving from Oakland to Las Vegas and 18 years since the moment happened, the Raiders can’t seem to avoid the “Tuck Rule Game” and its painful memories.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many networks re-airing some of the most iconic sports games in recent years, a move that often brings joy to NFL fans. Unfortunately for the Raiders, CBS Sports Network is going to bring the “Tuck Rule Game” back to everyone’s television. Needless to say, the Raiders weren’t too pleased.
It’s hard to blame the Raiders for their reaction. The infamous tuck rule moment, where Tom Brady’s fumble and the recovery by Raiders’ linebacker Greg Biekert was nullified after officials determined Brady was attempting to tuck the ball into his body. Instead of the Raiders getting the football to win the game and the AFC Divisional Playoff game, New England was given new life and went on to win.
Of course, we’d expect viewership for the re-aired game will be quite high in Massachusetts and football fans in Denver might particularly enjoy it. Just don’t count on any Raiders fans checking out the replay anytime soon and the tweets will likely open the wound that they had forgotten about.
