Free agency opened Thursday in the LIV Golf League with team captains looking to fill out their 2024 rosters.
Players who finished 25th to 44th in 2023 league play and whose contracts have expired are free agents. Their teams can re-sign them, or they can negotiate with a team that has an open roster spot.
Among the 12 teams, there are 10 open slots between free agents and players who were relegated (finished 45th or lower).
The teams with spots to fill are:
–4 Aces (Dustin Johnson, captain). Pat Perez finished 28th and is a free agent.
–Cleeks GC (Martin Kaymer). Bernd Wiesberger (41st) and Graeme McDowell (42nd) are free agents.
–Fireballs GC (Sergio Garcia). Carlos Ortiz finished 15th and used his option to become a free agent.
–HyFlyers GC (Phil Mickelson). James Piot was relegated.
–Iron Heads GC (Kevin Na). Sihwan Kim was relegated.
–Ripper GC (Cameron Smith). Matt Jones (37th) is a free agent and Jediah Morgan was relegated.
–Smash GC (Brooks Koepka). Chase Koepka was relegated.
–Torgue GC (Joaquin Niemann). David Puig (31st) is a free agent.
Four of the open roster spots are reserved for Andy Ogletree, who won The International Series 2023 Rankings, and to the top three finishers at the LIV Golf Promotions tournament in Abu Dhabi, to be held Dec. 8-10.
The teams with full rosters are 2023 team champions Crushers GC (Bryson DeChambeau), Majesticks (captains Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood), Rangecoats GC (Bubba Watson) and Stinger GC (Louis Oosthuizen).
In 2024, LIV Golf will have a mid-season trading window that will allow teams and players to negotiate trades and contract extensions, if eligible.
