Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is looking to make new teammate Anthony Davis comfortable.

How comfortable? James is giving up his No. 23 to Davis as a way to placate the star.

James has worn the No. 23 jersey every season he’s been in the NBA outside of a four-year stint with the Miami Heat. It’s been his way to pay homage to all-time great Michael Jordan.

Meanwhile, Davis has worn the same jersey number since his high school days.

This all comes on the same day that Los Angeles cleared enough cap room to add another max-contract player in free agency. Davis’ decision to forgo his $4 million trade kicker also helped here.

There’s nothing to the idea that James offered up the No. 23 in return to Davis giving up that $4 million and helping the Lakers in free agency.
