The Las Vegas Raiders and the NFL announced Tuesday the annual all-star game event will be held in 2021 at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas – the next year the city hosts the 2022 NFL Draft. Could the 2025 Super Bowl be next?
The National Football League announced Tuesday afternoon it has awarded the 2021 NFL Pro Bowl to Las Vegas and the game will be played at the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders – Allegiant Stadium.
“We look forward to partnering with the Raiders and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to bring the excitement of Pro Bowl week to our Las Vegas fans and community for the first time,” Peter O’Reilly, NFL EVP of club business and league events, said in a statement. “We thank the city of Orlando for its outstanding partnership in helping us to grow and evolve the Pro Bowl over the last four years.”
The Pro Bowl moves to Las Vegas after a three-year stay in Orlando, Fla. The league said the move to Las Vegas “injects new energy into the league’s all-star showcase with its move to the brand-new venue in a market ready to embrace NFL football.”
The 2022 NFL Draft will also be held in Las Vegas after it was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 and 2022 will be a big year for Las Vegas, Raiders and the NFL’s investment in its newest market.
The Pro Bowl, much-more a fan driven event than true all-star game, will settle in nicely on the Las Vegas Strip. With a multitude of activities and attractions, the Raiders and the city hosting the game could indeed breathe new life into it. Over 43 million visitors make their way to Las Vegas each year.
“The Raiders welcome the NFL Pro Bowl to Allegiant Stadium and to Las Vegas, the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World,” Raiders president Marc Badain said. “Pro Bowl week is a celebration of the best the NFL has to offer and there is no better place than Las Vegas to celebrate and honor the league’s biggest stars. The NFL, the LVCVA and the Raiders look forward to a world class event that will set the standard for future NFL events in Las Vegas.”
The 65,000-seat Allegiant Stadium is just over a month from substantial completion and will host its first NFL game during the Raiders preseason in August.
Allegiant Stadium and Las Vegas are also considered the front-runner to be awarded the 2025 Super Bowl as well. We should know later this year which city wins the next open bid for the nation’s largest single-day sporting event.
