San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has spoken out about a report that detailed a rift between he and general manger John Lynch.
Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, Shanahan called the report “complete bulls–t” in a text message.
It’s not surprising that Shanahan would say this.
Of course, it’s entirely possible that he’s telling the truth. To the extent that he’s not, few people in the NFL would acknowledge a rift between themself and another high ranking member of the organization.
It’s worth noting that if there is a rift, it’s taking place behind closed doors. Shanahan and Lynch have always appeared friendly and in sync publicly.
Obviously, the situation the team is in will create some natural tension. Both Shanahan and Lynch are entering their third seasons in San Francisco. The first two have yielded nothing close to a playoff appearance and a combined 10-22 record.
Heading into Year 3 with a team that’s generally regarded as at least a Wild Card contender, there’s a natural pressure to perform.
