Kevin Love: Zion Williamson should consider ‘shutting it down’

Zion Williamson remains out of the lineup for Duke with just two games left until the ACC Tournament. Kevin Love thinks he should consider not coming back.

Williamson is currently listed as day-to-day with a Grade 1 knee sprain that occurred on a freak play against North Carolina. It was a scary incident that fortunately did not result in catastrophic injury.

With so much at stake for his future, Love believes Williamson should consider putting his foot down.

“If I were him, I’d probably say, especially after a scare like this, I’d heavily consider telling the NCAA to pay us or else shutting it down and doing what’s best for his family,” Love told Jason Lloyd of The Athletic. “That kid is really an exceptional talent and from everything I’ve heard, he’s a great kid. I think he’s going to have a lot of success in this league. I would lean toward not coming back.”

Love isn’t the only NBA star who thinks Williamson needs to forget about playing another minute of college basketball, either. Isaiah Thomas and DeMarcus Cousins both made it clear they think he should just get healthy and prepare for the 2019 NBA Draft.

For his part, Williamson has not backed down from his stance that he is going to play when healthy.

On the season, the freshman has averaged 21.6 points on 68.3 percent shooting from the field, 8.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocks in 28.2 minutes per game.
