Katie Ledecky dominates 1,500m freestyle at Mission Viejo

Swimming star Katie Ledecky won the 1,500-meter freestyle in a dominating 15 minutes, 40.55 seconds to win the event at a Pro Series meet in Mission Viejo, Calif., on Sunday.

Ledecky, a five-time Olympic gold medalist, finished 26 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Ashley Twichell (16:06.68).

The time was the 14th best 1,500 swim in women’s competition and Ledecky holds 12 of the top 14 all-time marks, including each of the top 10. She set the world record of 15:20.48 in 2018.

Ledecky also finished second in the 100 freestyle behind sprinting specialist Abbey Weitzeil, who won in 53.68 seconds. Ledecky’s time was 54.22.

Ledecky, 24, won three events at the meet, including the 200-meter freestyle (1:54.40) on Friday and the 400-meter freestyle (3:59.25) on Saturday.
